The Art of Contemporary Craftsmanship with Capdell Furniture

Capdell represents a legacy of design excellence that’s still unfolding. As fresh and artful now as it was back then and will be tomorrow.

The brothers who founded Capdell had to say goodbye to another business first. It was 1967 — Valencia, Spain — and Curvados García, their first venture, was dedicated entirely to classic chairs. Crafted to perfection there as they are today at Capdell. Narrating tales of tradition and innovation with the same lightness of touch. A legacy and commitment these two brothers have maintained from the very beginning.

Curvados García set the stage for Capdell's emergence and as the company grew, so did their commitment to quality and storytelling through design. Elevating their passion for craftsmanship and stewardship in the process. Stewardship of the Earth and for local craftsmen and women in Valencia, where Capdell chairs are still being made all these decades later.

Today, Capdell represents a legacy of design excellence that’s still unfolding. Where each piece is a journey through time. Embodying the spirit of its founders and their considered furniture making. As fresh and artful now as it was back then and will be tomorrow.

The Art of Contemporary Craftsmanship

Capdell fuses age-old craftsmanship with the sleek lines of modern style. Where every detail is crafted to blend aesthetic appeal with practicality. In tune with a very particular aesthetic that is closely tied to place. A bold, stripped-back minimalism with a fresh, coastal vibrance. Distilled through materials of raw elegance, now refined. Building into a singular aesthetic one would naturally expect to find in Valencia... or Sydney, perhaps.

Design at Capdell is stripped back — essential and singular. Their approach to contemporary craftsmanship is just as focused. Concentrated on local production and artisans, too. Allowing for meticulous attention to detail only possible by hand. The finest craftsmanship demands nothing less, of course, but Capdell go further. Extending their local, hands-on approach throughout their business.

With centralised production processes, Capdell minimise environmental impact. Enhancing efficiency but also significantly reducing their carbon footprint. They don’t stop there, either. Only using wood certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. Ensuring every piece of furniture is crafted from responsibly sourced timber.

Fitting Capdell into Your Home and Work Life

Capdell creates timeless, contemporary pieces that are fun, thoughtful and open to experimentation.

1. Nix Chair

Conceived by the Paris-based designer Patrick Norguet, the Nix Chair is characterised by its light and dynamic curves. Marrying the robustness of a solid beech frame with the intricate 3D spherical geometry of curved plywood backrest and seat.

2. Aro Chair

With Aro, designed by Carlos Tiscar, the simple round chair has been redefined. Its seat is generous and the armrests angled just so. Allowing for easy, graceful movement. Whether you’re furnishing a welcome area, guest bedroom, or even a gallery space.

3. Stir Chair

Designed by Kazuko Okamoto, the Stir Chair is inspired by the Okiagari Koboshi, a traditional Japanese lucky doll that wobbles but always returns upright due to its center of gravity. A whimsical concept piece made for the curious and playful among us.

4. Ava Chair

Designed by Carlos Tíscar, the Ava Chair is the epitome of Capdell’s stripped back aesthetic. Almost Bauhaus in its simplicity and singular presence, the Ava’s form and construction become the main event. The exactitude and panache are matched only by the boldness of its simplicity.

5. Iconica Armchair

The Iconica is a seamless blend of strength and serenity — made for design lovers. Created by Gabriel Teixidó, it combines Mediterranean and Nordic influences. The laid-back posture of its beechwood frame bends like summer on the Spanish coast. While the premium grain leather for the armchair's seat and back wouldn’t be out of place on a Viking ship. Building into a bold, muscular presence that somehow feels light as air.

6. Eco Chair

The Eco Chair is another creation from Carlos Tíscar. Characterised by graceful curves, its organic architecture appeals to the senses. The smooth, flowing lines of its origami structure form a layered, tactile appeal. Building into perfect harmony between artistic design and ergonomic comfort.

7. Isa Chair

Deceptively simple, the Isa Chair was designed by Vicent Martínez and named after his daughter. The seat and inside of the chair are upholstered — bringing visual interest and texture to the simplicity of the beech frame. Then, behind the backrest, you find space to store an iPad, notebook or whatever you like. Tucked away in a recessed cavity, yet clearly visible when you get up, so you can't miss them. What a clever, thoughtful touch. Speaking volumes of a father’s love. Also available as a barstool.

Awards and Acknowledgments

Capdell has a rich history of accolades. Including the Red Dot and Good Design Awards for their Nix Chair and the Red Dot Award for their Stir Chair. As well as the Good Design and German Design Awards for both their Eco Chair and Concord Chair. With each confirming the brand's contributions to design history. Preserving the warmth and authenticity of traditional woodwork while moving design forward.
